THE TUTORS
Here at Urban Edge we have been lucky enough to sign some of the UK's top breakdance tutors. All of our tutors have years of experience teaching their workshops across the UK and our top tutors work worldwide. Many of our tutors are or have been in dance crews performing at large scale events and compete/battle in competitions around the UK on a regular basis. All of our tutors have experience in teaching people of all ages, particularly young people and work alongside youth organisations, corporate companies and dance schools, teaching this great dance form.
THE WORKSHOP
The one day workshop is a great option if you are looking for a fun filled day with the aim of learning the basics of breakdancing.
THE WARM UP
The workshop warm up features a thorough stretching routine which involves the usual stretches for most physical, high energy activities plus extra stretches that concentrate on specific muscles that are used in breakdancing in particular. After stretching the tutor will go through a number of fun activities to warm up the participants ready to start the 'all element routine'.
THE ROUTINE
After all of the participants are warmed up and raring to learn some moves, the tutor will begin teaching the 'all element routine'. This routine involves practicing moves from all the different elements of breakdancing, from top rocking to foot works such as six step and power moves such as backspins, plus a selection of freezes, all incorporated to create a effective overall routine.
THE CIRCLE
The highlight of the workshop is 'The Circle'. The circle consist of the participants creating a ring/circle and take it in turns to enter the circle to bust their moves and show off what they have achieved throughout the workshop. This is a great way to build confidence through learning and achieving. After all of the participants have entered the circle the tutor will demonstrate some of his/her own moves to encourage and inspire all of the pupils that were involved in the day workshop.
COURSES
If you are looking to go further than the basics then a course should be the choice for you. Courses can run from 6 -12 weeks depending on what is suitable for you as the customer and how many routines/moves the participants would like to learn. In the past the dance tutors have seen pupils that start with absolutely no knowledge of breakdancing progress immensely through the course, gradually becoming true 'breakerz'.
To begin with all participants will learn the basic moves and routines in breakdancing. Pupils will then move on to more complex moves and routines plus go on to learn about contact moves and up rocking.
CHOREOGRAPHY / DANCE PIECES
With the choreography option participants will be given the opportunity to learn a wide range of routines and moves plus work with our top choreographers to create a spectacular performance / dance piece. The choreography option is suitable for beginners as well as experienced dancers as our tutors will work with any level the participants are at to produce a high quality show full of dynamic dance routines, solos, pair moves and much more.
The choreography option is ideal if you have a set group of keen dancers as the group will need to commit for a 8-12 week period where the participants will be working together towards a performance, which not only gives reason for effort and determination but also gives a sense of achievement each time the dance piece is performed. In the past groups that have participated in Urban Edge dance pieces have gone on to perform their piece around their county.
THE URBAN EDGE WORKSHOPS CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT

CUSTOMER COMMENTS
'Urban Edge have produced some amazing results in our school. The boys really enjoyed performing their piece and the process it took to get there. You could tell by the boys reactions that they felt a huge sense of achievement and the project definitely gave them a different opinion on dance.'
Mick Miller - Pittville School
'Urban Edge Promotions delivered a well tailored workshop for our dance leaders day in 2009. We were introduced to the history of B-Boying (Breakdancing) and learnt a variety of breakdance footwork steps and freezes which could potentially be incorporated in to street or contemporary classes. Dan was a sensitive and approachable tutor who managed to get the best out of us in a relatively short workshop. Everyone wanted more!'
